A woman from Chuckey has reportedly sent around $40,000 to a man after meeting him on Facebook and now believes she may have been scammed by him.

The victim spoke with the Greene County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday and said she started talking to the man, who went by the name of Donald Gregg on Facebook, in May of 2023. The report states they got into a relationship and between May 2023 and April 2024 she sent $40,000 by withdrawing money from her account and transferring it onto prepaid cards. Funds were taken out in $500 increments. The woman said she did this because she thought Gregg really cared for her.

In April the victim started to feel like she was being scammed. She has spoken with others who claim to work with the suspect and was told to speak with a woman named Margaret to get her money back. However when speaking with Margaret the victim was asked to send additional funds. The victim said she refused to send the money because she believed it was a scam. No further details were provided regarding charges or arrests.
