Water pressure and delivery problems continue to mount for the Chuckey Utility District customers today as warmer temperatures have thawed pipes that have been frozen for days.
Manager Tyson Lamb said this afternoon that the utility has a list over over 100 areas they are checking for leaks. Lamb said that many leaks are just being discovered, and urged residents of the district to check their homes, outbuildings, barns, and even churches – anywhere that a water supply could have burst. Lamb said residents can also check their meter to see if it is running faster than normal or when no water use should be measured. Lamb said this could indicate an underground break or leak from a pipe in an undiscovered area.
The volume of leaks has resulted in low or now water pressure for much of the district, which serves about 4,900 homes and nearly 14,000 customers in eastern Greene County and a small portion of western Washington County.
The utility office will be open until 8:00 PM Tuesday evening and Lamb asked anyone to report leaks by calling 639-6362 as soon as possible.
Lamb stated that due to some water outages in the Jonesborough area, an additional water supply for the district has also been cut off, making the problems even worse.
Lamb said there could be multiple properties including vacant properties that have a break in the line, with property owners unaware of the break. Those who do have water are asked to help conserve as much as possible to help with delivery to other homes.
The Chuckey Utility District serves an area out the Erwin Highway to the Clark’s Creek area, and from Greystone to Rheatown to Milburnton.
