A Chuckey man wanted on a warrant in Unicoi County was arrested following a traffic stop on Tuesday night.
A deputy with the Greene County Sheriff’s Department was on patrol around 11:30 PM and saw a Chevrolet truck traveling nearly 15 miles below the speed limit. The truck was then seen making erratic jerking motions toward the left and right side of the roadway. The vehicle then crossed the yellow line on three separate occasions before jerking back into its lane.
The deputy initiated a traffic stop, but the driver failed to stop. The truck merged onto West Andrew Johnson Highway. Two other deputies arrived to aid in the traffic stop and the driver finally stopped near the intersection with Lonesome Pine Trail.
Deputies approached the truck and the driver seat was empty. A man was in the passenger seat and a second man was in the back seat. Both men refused to tell who was driving. One of the deputies who aided in the traffic stop identified Fred Poore of Old Snapps Ferry Road as the driver.
Poore then reportedly admitted to driving the vehicle. He said he knew he had a warrant in Unicoi County and did not want to go to jail. A check showed that Poore had an active warrant for criminal violation of probation. Jars were found during a vehicle search that contained a little over 4 grams of methamphetamine and several needles.
Poore was charged with felony possession of meth and possession of drug paraphernalia. Unicoi County was notified of his new charges and advised to send a detainer to the Greene County Detention Center.
