A Chuckey man was arrested after attempting to evade a traffic stop on Monday night.
A deputy with the Greene County Sheriff’s Department saw a vehicle traveling well below the posted speed limit in the Fox Road and Broyles Road area around 9:20 PM. The vehicle also crossed the middle dividing line.
The vehicle then stopped in the middle of the roadway. The deputy was unsure if the driver was having mechanical problems or a medical issue. He initiated the cruiser’s back lights to check on the driver. When the lights were turned on the driver, Jimmy R. Metcalf of Fishpond Road, began to drive away.
Metcalf reportedly refused to stop, but never reached speeds over 30 miles per hour. Eventually Metcalf pulled into a driveway on Fishpond Road, but still refused to comply with verbal commands.
The driver’s side window was broken out to gain compliance and remove Metcalf from the vehicle. Once Metcalf was out of the vehicle, a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage was detected on his person. A half empty bottle of alcohol was also found inside the vehicle.
Metcalf was arrested for DUI, felony evading arrest, and driving without a license.
