Greene County Mayor Kevin Morrison has assured that there will be no tax increase this year as the Greene County Commission is in the process of approving their 2024-25 fiscal year budget.
Last year, with a 12-9 vote, the Greene County Commission approved a nearly 30% property tax increase, which was just about a $.38 increase, raising the rate to $1.65 per $100 of taxable property in the county. The rate for property inside the Greeneville City limits is a penny lower at $1.64. The increase was expected to raise an additional $7.9 M in revenue. But during an interview with Radio Greeneville last week, Morrison said no increase will be necessary for taxpayers this time around.
The county commission will have a called meeting tonight to discuss appropriating additional funds for departments for the 2024 Fiscal Year Budget. The commission will meet immediately after for a Budget Workshop. The called meeting will begin at 6 PM and will be held at the Greene County Courthouse in the upstairs courtroom, located on 101 South Main Street.
