The Greeneville Energy Authority Board met yesterday morning and heard updates on Broadband, crews are continuing to install fiber cable and the services are still set to begin serving Greeneville by the end of this year.
GEA Director of Broadband and the IT Department Phil Bradley, says there’s about 593,000 feet of fiber that needs to be installed. Bradley says engineering for Greeneville City limits should be complete by the end of October.
Crews are now starting the engineering on the county build, which will focus on the western portion of the county. Director Bradley says the build is through grant funding and they are waiting to get the contract back from the state. A map will be set up in the next few weeks and made available for residents to select services.
Bradley also shared this week they will hook up the service to what they call a ‘friendly customer’, where they will go out and get their first ‘real world connection.’ The intent is to get about 50 friendly customers to continue and test the product before officially launching services.
