The Greene County Purchasing Committee approved a bid from Inland Construction out of Abingdon, VA on Wednesday morning for work at Kinser Park.
The $247,929 was the low bid out of two received for work that will include creating ADA compliant parking, a concrete walkway, park benches, trash receptacles, and grading a spot for new ADA playground equipment and placing engineered playground mulch in the area.
The work is being paid for through a $1 million grant that the county received for the park from Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation.
Greene County Mayor Kevin Morrison told the committee that no improvements had been made to the playground equipment since the 1970s.
Morrison said that the county had also applied for an additional $1 million grant through the Appalachian Regional Council, and officials were hoping to receive that funding as well.
Morrison said that the work done under the accepted bid would be the first phase of expected work at the park. Further upgrades could includes improvements to the road network in the park.
The committee also approved a $333,225 bid from Adam and Mike Shelton with Team Red Coatings in Greeneville to demo, tile, and epoxy coat the second, third, and fourth floors of the new Greene County Administration Center. The work will begin immediately and take 30 to 60 days to complete.
The renovation is being paid for through a $10 million bond issuance by the county, with payments being funded through the county’s general debt service fund.
Morrison said the renovation of the facility continues to be on budget.
