West Depot Street was filled with a festive atmosphere of barking and beads on Saturday afternoon during the second annual edition of the Greeneville City Schools Education Foundation’s Mardi Growl.
The Mardi Gras themed event featured over 20 pooches that paraded up and down Depot Street competing for the titles of king and queen of Mardi Growl dressed in their most festive fits.
Trooper, owned by Anna Sutton, took home the title of King of Mardi Growl with a rainbow mohawk, while the Hensley family’s pup Princess took home the title of Queen of Mardi Growl sporting a festive tutu.
Teresa Smith and her dog Pepper were named best human/dog duo for their Mardi Gras-themed costumes, while Baxter the wire-haired Jack Russell Terrier took home the title of fan favorite.
“We’re so glad to have folks come out and enjoy this event on such a beautiful day. We’re pleased to offer a this unique event, and it was wonderful to see everyone enjoy the festive atmosphere with their pets,” GCS Education Foundation Executive Director Spencer Morrell said. “I would like to especially thank our volunteers who helped make the event happen, and the Greeneville Police Department for helping keep the street safe.”
The Greeneville-Greene County Humane Society held a drawing for a pet stroller and microchips during the event, and Pawsitively Posh Pet Rescue attended the event with dog treats and spread awareness for their mission.
All proceeds from the event went to benefit the Greeneville City Schools Education Foundation. The foundation supports programming throughout the Greeneville City Schools System.
