Three people have been arrested in connection with the shooting death of 18-year-old Charles Dabney of Greeneville.
On Tuesday evening, the Johnson City Police Department has charged Tyron Bland, 34, of Greene County with aggravated assault, convicted felon in possession of a firearm, and reckless endangerment. He was arrested at a home on Blue Springs Road in Greene County and transported to the Washington County Detention Center.
This afternoon, Jayden Smith, 19 of Asheville, N.C. was arrested in Asheville. Smith is charged with aggravated assault and reckless endangerment. He is awaiting extradition. Police also arrested Katy Scruggs, 22, of Asheville, and charged her with accessory after the fact. She was accompanying Smith in Asheville and is awaiting extradition.
Dabney, who graduated from Greeneville High this spring, died from injuries received in a shooting in downtown Johnson City around 2:00 AM Sunday. The shooting took place on East Main Street. Johnson City police said that two people were found with gunshot wounds, and were transported for treatment.
The Johnson City Police Department, Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, Greene County Sheriff’s Office and Asheville Police Department have been involved in the investigation.
