South Greene and Camp Creek Volunteer Fire Departments were dispatched to an animal rescue in the 2400 block of Viking Mountain Road at approximately 6:00 AM Friday.
According to a report from South Greene Volunteer Fire Chief David Weems, upon arrival firefighters found a bull and cow in the creek with their head trapped in a hay feeder. Firefighters used hydraulic cutters to free the cattle. The bull was able to walk away under its own power. The cow, possibly suffering from hypothermia, was unable to stand.
Firefighters constructed a halter with a rope and used a winch to pull the cow out of the creek.
The partially frozen creek and snow covered ground proved challenging to navigate, but the coordinated effort allowed for a successful outcome.
Firefighters cleared the scene around 7:30 AM.
