Two people looking to challenge for the area state house and senate seats later this year have been left off the August ballot.
Tammy Albright, who had hoped to challenge David Hawk for the State House, and Chad Huntsman, planning to take on State Senator Steve Southerland, have both been left off the August ballot by the State Republican Party.
Both were notified Tuesday their appeals had been denied.
Tammy Albright
Albright told Radio Greeneville News last night it was “a disappointing day”, saying “unfortunately I was not granted a waiver.” Albright said she would not be running as an independent, presenting her voting record since she has lived in Greene County which she said leaves no doubt she is an active voter and Republican. Albright says she “will be advocate for the state party rules to be changed” moving forward, saying “giving voters a choice is always the best policy.”
Chad Huntsman
Huntsman told Radio Greeneville News last night “I’m very disappointed.” The problem running as an independent, which he said he will not do, is that one would never be able to get leadership positions on committees. Huntsman called it “a sad day”, saying “the community deserves better than 24 years will no opposition and no position of influence in Nashville.
HAWK AND SOUTHERLAND
David Hawk will now be unopposed in the August primary but will be challenged by Democrat Catherine Bacon in the general election. Southerland will have not opposition on the ballot in either the primary or general election.
