The third solar site in Greene County is still hoping to go live this weekend.
Greeneville Energy Authority had already finished equipment checks on their part of the Albany solar site project and received word from Silicon Ranch Thursday morning they would be ready to begin operations from the Reed Road location Friday. The company however was finishing some final checks but the startup was delayed at least until Saturday.
The GEA Board agreed in April of 2024 to a Power Purchase Agreement with Silicon Ranch for their third solar site.
GEA, which had previously bought 100% of it’s power from the Tennessee Valley Authority, received permission a few years ago to purchase 5% of power from any low carbon providers, including solar.
Construction at the Albany Solar site has been behind schedule for months and Silicon Ranch agreed per stipulations of the contract, to pay $495 per day for liquidated damages which equates to about $19,000 a month.
