What appeared to look like two simple appointments to the Airport Authority Board resulted in two motions which failed for lack of seconds, then an approved motion sending the appointments back to the Airport Authority Board for further consideration.
The Airport Authority Board had submitted two names for consideration by City Council Tuesday to fill the vacancies with the renewal of Jimmy Collins and the appointment of John Curran.
Scott Niswonger, who had asked to speak to the board, suggested Colonel Don Johnson and Jack Miller.
Airport Board Chair Paul McAfee explained the two recommended by the Airport Board were done so using a weighted system to grade potential board members. McAfee later told the council he had not had enough time to interview the two prior to the council meeting but knew both men from previous dealings.
William Sams interest in the airport is related to his companies involvement with ROTC flight students. Sam’s also questioned the process by which board members are chosen.
After the two recommendations to join the board failure for the lack of seconds, City Council requested more information from the Airport Board into their selection process
