At the request of Judge Ken Bailey, the Greene County Budget and Finance Committee is beginning the process of securing another Sessions Judge to assist with a busy workload of cases on a daily basis.
Judge Bailey utilizes David Leonard as a two day a week juvenile magistrate. Judge Bailey would like to do away with the magistrate position and expand Leonard to a full time position as the additional sessions/juvenile judge.
Committee members approved a motion to request a private act through the state legislature to allow for the additional position.
Judge Bailey has implemented a successful Recovery Court during his time on the bench, and with the addition of the new position, says he plans to add a Safe Baby Court.
The additional position would also permit daily arraignments of those who have been arrested and unable to make bond.
Sheriff Wesley Holt agreed with Judge Bailey that daily arraignments need to be done.
