While financial help is on the way, local utilities such as the Greeneville Water Commission have to continue to pay the bills.
Addressing the City Council Tuesday afternoon, Superintendent Laura White, in answer to a question from Tim Teague, reported the utility is spending $300,000 per month to cover costs , including those related to flood recovery efforts.
White says the Water Commission is working on an agreement with the County over financial relief through the HEAL program, but in the meantime, the department has cut back to only necessary spending, calling it hard to budget this year with so many unknowns.

White is counting down the weeks until the Water Commission can get the transformer installed back at the water intake facility on the river. In 20 weeks she says, hopes are to have three of the electric pumps up and running inside the building, which will eliminate need for the emergency diesel pumps outside.
