The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning in effect from 7:00 PM Sunday evening until 7:00 AM Tuesday morning.  A total of 4-6″ of snow is expected to accumulate through then, with higher accumulations possible in some areas.  6-8″ of snow is expected to our west and north, with some of the northern parts of Greene County in the 6-8″ range.

*Winter Storm Warning TIME: 7pm Sunday until 7am on Tuesday, County Wide.

*Snow Fall TOTALS: Increased 4- 8 inches, county-wide, depending on location ( see Briefing graphic)

*Start Time of snow 8am to 10am on Monday; heaviest snow from Noon to 7pm. Snow ending on Tuesday , afternoon-ish.

*Temperatures: Monday night (22 degrees) Tuesday high (26 degrees) Tuesday Night ( 4-7 degrees) Wednesday morning ( windchill -7)

Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute. If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.

Following the snow, high temperatures are likely to remain in the 20s through Wednesday night, with single digits low temperatures possible Wednesday morning. Below zero wind chills are also likely Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.

Tyson Lamb with Chuckey Utility District and Laura White with the Greeneville Water Commission urged customers to be prepared for the frigid temperatures.  Tips include making sure your homes plumbing system is protected from freezing. If you have any, or know of any, vacant properties, out-buildings, or other structures supplied by water, please keep a check on those as well.  Check openings to areas underneath your house, especially underpinning of mobile homes, to reduce airflow.  Never place a heater underneath a home to keep pipes warm as it could cause a greater fire risk.  Report any water line breaks as quickly as possible to your utility.

Another round of very cold temperatures with single digits wind chills is expected late in the week and into next weekend.

Both Greeneville City and Greene County Schools are already closed Monday for the Martin Luther King holiday.
