9-1-1 dispatched firefighters to a call at 3:08 am today in Baileyton, initially reported as a fire at the United Volunteer Fire Department building. First responders however notified other responding units the fire was at the EMS Station 4 adjacent to Town Hall on the Horton Highway across from Baileyton Elementary School.
Units from United and Newmansville Volunteer Fire Departments were initially called to the scene, with Fall Branch on standby. Mosheim was also requested. The fire was contained to the EMS building and did not spread to other structures.
By 3:22 am the fire was reported under control and reported extinguished by 3:40 am.
Tommy Payne reported he awoke from the sleeping quarters in the EMS Station and noticed smoke coming from the bathroom. He and another person were able to evacuate the building without injury.
A damage estimate was not immediately available. Firefighters say the fire appeared to have started above a bathroom.
The Greene County Sheriff’s Department and Baileyton Police also responded. Fire Investigator David Love responded to the scene and turned the building back over to the Town of Baileyton shortly after 6 am.
