A Hazardous Weather Outlook is in effect for the entire area and a Winter Storm Warning has been issued for the higher elevations through early Tuesday.
Cold air began to usher into the region overnight with snowfall above roughly 2,000 feet.
Totals of 1-4 inches can be generally expected in the remainder of the east Tennessee mountains with locally higher amounts near Sams Gap along the I-26 corridor in east Tennessee.
In addition to the snowfall, breezy winds will accompany the cold temperatures late tonight through Monday night, leading to wind chill values around or slightly below zero in the mountains.
Storm total snowfall amounts in excess of 12 inches are possible at or above 5,000 feet in elevation in the Smokies, with 4-8 inches elsewhere in the Smokies.
