State Representative David Hawk of Greeneville responded Thursday to efforts in Washington to provide Medicaid for illegals.
REPRESENTATIVE HAWK ON MEDICAID FOR ILLEGALS
“Well, one of the things we’re hearing out of Washington is that the Democrats are holding out for expansion of Medicaid to go toward illegal immigrants. And that just blows my mind that they would prioritize insurance for individuals who are not in the country legally and where that gives me worry is that President Trump and our Tennessee federal delegation have negotiated part of a $50 billion rural healthcare initiative that Tennessee would have a billion dollars coming our way over the next five years. And if the Democrats get what they’re asking for, we lose all of that money to come back to Tennessee for our rural health care. So it’s an ill advised plan that the Democrats are putting out since they’ve closed down the government.” “So I would encourage you to continue giving your support to Senator Blackburn to Senator Haggerty and to Congresswoman Harshbarger to stay strong because we don’t need that rural health investment that’s going to be coming to Tennessee for our health care over the next five years to go to someone who doesn’t deserve it as a non-American citizen.”
Speaking with the Greene County Republican women’s group Thursday , Hawk also applauded the successful efforts to keep the Great Smoky Mountain National Park open despite the government shutdown.
HAWK COMMENTS ON EFFORT TO KEEP NATIONAL PARK OPEN
“I spent a couple of days in Gatlinburg over this week, and the visitors there are just as vibrant as they would have been with no government shutdown. That’s a partnership between the state of Tennessee, our Department of Tourism, and economic development, along with local governments and Sevier County, to ensure that they don’t skip a beat, that visitors are still welcome in Great Smoky Mountain National Park.”
