A Morristown woman was arrested last week, about a year and a half after a warrant was issued for taking medicine from an elderly Greeneville woman while in her care.
An arrest report issued this morning by the Criminal Investigation Division of the Greeneville Police Department says 42 year old Rachel N. Gibson of Chucky River Road, Morristown was formally charged at the Greene County Detention Center last Monday September 8th. She was transported to Greene County following her arrest in Hamblen County four days earlier on charges of assault, shoplifting. theft of property and failure to appear. An NCIC check revealed the Greene County warrant from 18 months earlier, which had been issued March 12, 2024.
The daughter of the victim had reported to police last year Gibson was seen on video at the victims Knollridge Apartment on Mason Street. The daughter later noticed 26 alprazolam pills missing since she last counted them a few days earlier. The woman says she confronted Gibson as to why she would steal from an elderly woman and the response was that she “had a car payment to make.”
The report issued today by Greeneville Police Department Detective Lieutenant John Bishop says the warrant charges Gibson with Financial Exploitation of an elderly or vulnerable adult.
She is due in Criminal Court November 24th.
