Mark Britton told attendees at the Republican Party picnic last night he plans to qualify as a candidate for Greene County Road Superintendent.
MARK BRITTON WITH RADIO GREENEVILLE NEWS
“I have intentions of running for road superintendent in 2026. My experience includes 15 years at Summers Taylor and a couple of years with Weems Excavating and Paving. I am currently the paving supervisor at the Highway Department. I just felt the need to try to serve my community before I get ready to retire. I think with my experience I would be a good leader. Road building, road construction, road maintenance, I’ve done that basically all my life. I would like to continue on a little while and maybe serve my community in a little higher capacity.”
The 59-year-old Britton is a 1984 graduate of North Greene. He has been with the highway department about the past nine years and says he would like to serve two terms in office.
Candidates for the May 2026 primary can begin officially qualifying to run for office in December.

His comments came before a legal pad loaded list of party members, elected officials, families and others in attendance. The free picnic, located in the Tusculum City Park behind Doak School, was hosted by the Republican women in lieu of their usual monthly luncheon.
