Greene County Mayor Kevin Morrison addressed the Greene County Republican Party during their Monday meeting at the headquarters on Snapps Ferry Road.
Morrison updated attendees on Helene recovery as well as business and industrial updates, including land development on Snapps Ferry Road, construction near Greene Valley and the former Takoma Hospital property.
Morrison also gave updates on plans for the Greene County Courthouse structural issues, although a solution has yet to be decided. An addition behind the existing building at a cost of $2 million is being considered.
An eventual move of Sheriffs Department offices to the third floor of the Takoma building should provide extra room for improvements to the existing jail property downtown.
He also noted the average population increase in Greene County over the past five years is around 1000 per year since 2020.
