A Greeneville man is facing charges of attempted rape, kidnapping and aggravated domestic assault following an incident in the one hundred block of Valleyview Road Tuesday afternoon.
Deputy Janetha Gregory reports authorities responded to a simple assault call. When they arrived, the suspect was standing inside the doorway of the residence and the victim standing on stairs with knives in her hands. The report indicates it appears the victim had been attempting to get away from the suspect.
Once the two were separated, deputies spoke with both. The woman claimed the man, identified as 32 year old Matthew J. Knauss , had picked her up at her home in Rockford and brought her to his residence. She told investigators after coming out of the bathroom, the man attacked her, attempted to throw her down, and an altercation ensued. She said she asked the man repeatedly to leave, but was told he was not leaving until they “had relations”. At some point in the struggle, she was able to run to the kitchen and grab two knives to protect herself. She says the attack continued and knowing that the man had said he was an MMA fighter, she was scared he was going to overpower her and she wouldn’t make it out of the house.
Knauss told deputies he didn’t know the victims name and was only grappling with her because she wanted to.
He was taken into custody and transported to the Greene County Detention Center to await his initial sessions court appearance.
