Greeneville Mayor Cal Doty was taken by EMS to the hospital Tuesday afternoon after suffering what City Manager Todd Smith called “a medical episode”.
Assistant City Manager Cathy Osborne said this morning that Doty remains under medical supervision at the Johnson City Medical Center and is expected to make a full recovery.
Mayor Doty had been in the G. Thomas Love boardroom as he normally does prior to City Council meetings, greeting many of those as they arrive. However minutes before the meeting was to begin, the Mayor had left the room. Smith returned a short time later and notified Vice Mayor Tim Teague the Mayor had become ill in the hall behind the boardroom. EMS responded to the scene and attended to Mayor Doty, later transporting him to the hospital. Back inside the boardroom, a visibly shaken Todd Smith updated those in attendance of the Mayor’s illness with Teague then leading the board through a quick three item agenda.
A budget workshop, what many of those in attendance were there for, was postponed until a later, so far unknown date.
