A long-standing dispute between neighbors over free-roaming chickens escalated into a physical confrontation Sunday night.
Deputies were dispatched to a residence on Pigeon Creek Road at approximately 9:30 p.m. Sunday night in response to a reported simple assault. According to the report, two residents have had an on-going dispute over chickens that repeatedly trespass onto one neighbor’s property.
The conflict reportedly began when chickens belonging to one resident, identified as the suspect, continued to enter the yard of the neighboring victim. The victim stated that animal control had previously advised him that if the issue persisted, he had the right to trap the chickens until they could be retrieved by authorities.
On Sunday, the disagreement boiled over into a physical altercation. Both parties claimed the other initiated the fight, but deputies found no video evidence or third-party witnesses to verify either version of events.
During interviews, both individuals also brought up a prior incident from May 4, alleging that the other had brandished a firearm during a previous altercation. The suspect providee deputies with photos of injuries he claimed were sustained during the earlier .
No arrests were made and the investigation is ongoing.
