The Tennessee Department of Labor & Workforce Development reported Thursday afternoon the state unemployment rate for April was 3.5 percent, down from 3.6 percent in March.
Between March and April, total nonfarm employment in Tennessee increased by 8,600 jobs. This was the second month in a row the state unemployment rate has declined.
The state rate in April 2024 was 3.2 percent. During the past year, Tennessee employers added 24,000 nonfarm jobs.
The national unemployment rate was 4.2 percent in April 2025, unchanged from the March rate. The national unemployment rate in April 2024 was 3.9 percent.
