The Greeneville City Board of Education Monday approved the 2025-2026 school year budget for presentation to the City Council later this month.
SCHOOL BUDGET
An anticipated increase from the town pertaining to the rising costs for school buses would offset what is currently a $44,089 deficit in the school budget request.
Formal presentation of the budget will take place May 20th, with possible first and second readings on the entire Town of Greeneville Budget for next fiscal year schedules for June 3rd and 17th.
The budget document was approved by unanimous vote of the board.
HEALTHY KIDS PROGRAM PROPOSAL VOTED DOWN
All was not approved by unanimous vote at the school board meeting last night. As a matter of fact, a proposal for the Healthy Kids after school program at Tusculum View and East View was voted down by a vote of 2-2. A motion before that vote to table any possible action on the programs implementation was also voted down 2-2.
NPAC/GHS CONCRETE REPLACEMENT AND REPAIRS APPROVED
Concrete replacement and repairs at the NPAC and Greeneville High will begin within the next month, weather pending, following an approved low bid of $248,800 from World Concrete.
FENCING PURCHASE APPROVED FOR NEW BUS GARAGE AT GREENE TECH CENTER
Part of the City School system moving some operations into the Greene Tech Center property includes locating the bus garage there. A low bid of $38,642 from McCall for a galvanized fence and electric gate where the buses will be stored was approved.
SCRAPE SCHOOL BUS TO BE DONATED TO GREENEVILLE EMERGENCY & RESCUE SQUAD
An outdated Greeneville City School Bus (G13 to be exact) will be donated to the Greeneville Emergency and Rescue Squad for their training purposes.
WIRELESS PURCHASES APPROVED
Also approved Monday was the purchase of Network Switches using category 2 E-Rate funding. The install is expected to be finished by the beginning of the new school year.
INSURANCE COVERAGE FOR 2025-2026 APPROVED
Approval of insurance coverage with a total premium cost of $459.475 was also approved.
