Police were dispatched to the 500 block of Tusculum Boulevard around 8:45 Friday night, in regard to a shoplifting in progress.
While en route, dispatch let officers know the suspects had left the store in a Chevy Tahoe. Officers located the vehicle at a gas station at the 800 block of Tusculum Boulevard. They spoke with a passenger in the SUV, Harley Medcalf.
According to the report, Medcalf told police she had taken a knife, but returned it when confronted by a store employee. Medcalf said she had tried to take other items but left them hidden in the store instead. An officer was able to locate one of those hidden items.
Medcalf took full responsibility for the shoplifting in the report and stated that the others in the vehicle did not know what she was doing. A records check revealed Medcalf to have a warrant out of Hawkins County and she was placed into custody.
