Greeneville Police say they expect to obtain store video today of a Saturday morning attempted robbery at the Dollar General in Town Square Shopping Center.
Police say the man walked into the store around 11:30 am, took the clerk’s cell phone and told her to open the register or he would (expletive) kill her. The man then went behind the counter brandishing a white handled knife. When the clerk told him she didn’t know how to open it, he reportedly punched her in the mouth, knocking her down. The man then left the store, running down the sidewalk toward Save a lot. A man outside at the time heard the disturbance inside , and attempted to chase the suspect but lost him. Officers and Deputies also searched the area but were unable to find anyone matching his description. A shopper in the store described the suspect as a white male, about 5 feet 5 tall, wearing a black jacket with the hood up, a white mask, blue jeans and dark colored shoes. The suspect was also described as having medium length light brown hair.
Greene County EMS also responded to the scene to provide medical attention for the clerk. Police don’t believe anything was taken by the suspect. They say he should be considered armed and dangerous.
