An Afton woman is seeking to have her murder convictions overturned.
That was then Greene County Sheriff Pat Hankins in 2016, announcing the arrest of Vonda Star Smith.
Smith is seeking dismissal of her murder convictions in connection with the death of 21 year old Jessie Nicole Morrison and her unborn child in August 2016.
Smith appeared remotely from the West Tennessee State Penitentiary last week before Judge John Dugger, Jr. in Greene County Criminal Court for a post-conviction relief hearing.
The judge has yet to rule on the request for dismissal of her first and second degree murder convictions or a new trial.
Smith was sentenced by Judge Dugger in 2018 after a criminal court jury found her guilty. Smith was sentenced to a life sentence on the first degree conviction and a 25 year term on the second degree murder conviction to run concurrent.
