ROCK HILL, S.C. — Tusculum University’s Philip Miller has been named the South Atlantic Conference WePlayed Sports Baseball Pitcher of the Week.
Miller, a junior left-hander from Flat Rock, Michigan, delivered a dominant pitching performance in Tusculum’s 9-0 shutout win at Mars Hill last Saturday. He tossed seven shutout innings, allowing just three hits with a season-high eight strikeouts.
Miller’s performance helped the Pioneers secure a weekend series win over the Lions.
He lowered his earned run average to 4.54 which is the second lowest on the team. He improves to 2-3 on the season where he has pitched in 37.2 innings and has recorded 27 strikeouts in his eight starts.
Tusculum (10-20, 5-10 SAC) returns to action on Friday when they host Emory & Henry at 6 p.m. to begin a three-game series with the Wasps.
