Volunteers with the Greeneville Emergency & Rescue Squad were called to the Nolichucky River for a water rescue Friday night.
Just before 8:00 pm a man called to say that he had gone into the river to rescue a dog off Kinser Park Lane. A second man also entered the river but was unable to return and climb out. The Rescue Squad responded with personnel and boats and launched from Bird’s Bridge.
The man and the dog were both located down river on the bank and were brought back to safety just before 9:00 pm.
The Squad was already en route to two separate motorcycle accidents when the river rescue call came in. A car versus motorcycle accident was reported at 7:47 PM in Bulls Gap and a second car versus motorcycle accident was reported on the Baileyton Road at 7:52 PM. Squad members were en route to both of those calls and it was determined there was no entrapment, so they were able to immediately head to the Nolichucky.
