A bill to tax and limit vape products sponsored by a local legislator continues through the approval process.
House Bill 968, co-sponsored by State Representative David Hawk of Greeneville, was approved by the House Government Operations Committee on Monday. The bill advanced with a 12-1.
The bill will tax disposable vape products at 7 cents per milliliter and refillable vape products at 10% of the wholesale cost. The bill will also restrict vape products that are not approved by the FDA.
Hawk states the bill focuses on keeping vape products away from the youth.
The bill is now set to go to the House Finance, Ways, and Means committee today and to the Senate committee on March 18.
