North Greene 45 – Cosby 39
The Huskies outscored the Eagles 18-11 in the final quarter to claim their first region title since 2022. Lawson Davenport, who was named tournament MVP, poured in 15 points. With the win, North Greene will be back in the Jerome Woolsey Gymnasium on Monday evening to take on Oliver Springs, who fell to Harriman 61-59.
Greeneville 64 – Unicoi County 46
Greeneville got off to a fast start and held on to claim the Region 1-3A championship Thursday night at Viking Hall. The Greene Devils jumped out to a 19-7 lead after the opening quarter and extended the lead to 34-18 at the half.
Unicoi County came out in the second half and cut the deficit to 49-40, only to see the Greene Devils outscore them 15-6 over the last period and claim their first region championship since 2022. It was their 10th overall championship and 5th in the last 7 years.
Trey Thompson, who was named the tournament MVP, dropped in 23 points while Dominic Tweed netted 10. Tweed, along with Isaac McGill, Zaydyn Anderson, and Cole Smith joined Thompson on the All-Tournament Team.
Greeneville will now turn their attention to the Carter Hornets, who fell to Fulton 58-53. The game will be played Monday evening at Hal Henard with tip-off set for 7:00.
