Daylight Saving Time returns this Sunday, March 9th at 2:00 am meaning it will get darker later at night and sunrise will be later the next morning.
On the WGRV News Twitter (X) this week, we asked:
Would you rather remain on Daylight Saving Time, remain on Eastern Standard Time or remain as is.
69% say they would like to stay Eastern, 22% prefer Daylight and 9% say leave it as is.
Daylight Saving Time is used in over 70 countries, according to timeanddate.com.
Introduced initially to conserve energy, it increases the hours of daylight and creates longer summer evenings.
Disagreements exist over whether to stay permanently on Standard Time or Daylight Saving Time. Currently, 20 states have passed legislation or resolutions for permanent DST, but approval from Congress is required.
There are currently two bills suggesting making the change to daylight saving permanent, meaning there would be no “fall back.” Both Senate Bill 29 and House Resolution 139 are called the Sunshine Protection Act of 2025.
