Even though I-40 reopened in North Carolina at the state line Saturday, work continues on interstate repair in both North Carolina and Tennessee.
North Carolina DOT Officials say it will still be at least three years before those highways will be back to pre-flood conditions.
Mark Nagi with TDOT says there was less damage in Tennessee, but there is still plenty of work to do on this side of the border as well.

Nagi says TDOT has a goal of having all of I-40 back to pre Helene status by the end of Calendar Year 2025.
