For those who thought their most recent power bill was high, you’re not alone. Of course, you don’t have 40,752 customers living in your home either.
Greeneville Energy Authority reports it received its’ highest ever invoice from TVA for the billing period just ended, at $11,167,231.14.
The report came during the financial report during the monthly GEA Board meeting from GEA Chief Financial Officer Paige Mengel.
COMPARISON JANUARY 1981 VS JANUARY 2025
The TVA invoice from January 1981 was $2,435,452 for 80,176,618 kWh and 163,273 KW of demand. The average cost per kWh was $.03038. It was 2 pages in length.
The TVA invoice from January 2025 was for a total of $11,167,231for 136,655,047 kWh and 336,669 kWh of demand. The average cost per kWh was $.0817 (an increase of 358%). It was 24 pages long.
POWER DEMAND
Power Service Director Robert Keller reported during the Engineering and Operations segment of the meeting the largest power demand for the local utility since earlier this winter occurred at 8 am last Friday, February 21st at 241.7 megawatts, significantly lower than the January 22nd peak power demand of 306.1 megawatts. TVA also reported higher numbers that day at 32,569 megawatts, but again well below TVA’s all-time peak power demand of 35,319 megawatts on January 22nd.
By the way, Keller says the all time peak power usage in the GEA system was recorded February 20,2015 at 321.7 megawatts
