After a four-month absence, the Driver’s License Renewal Office has returned to the Greene County Annex building.
In late September, rain from Hurricane Helene damaged the ceiling and forced the office to close for repairs.
Greene County Clerk Lori Bryant told Radio Greeneville News this morning the office, located at 204 North Cutler Street, does driver’s license, photo ID and handgun permit renewals. All other Drivers License related matters are handled by the local Greeneville/Greene County Driver License Reinstatement Center at 1210 Hal Henard Road.
Bryant says her office can also do the REAL ID. The REAL ID Act of 2005 established minimum security standards for license issuance and production. These standards provide an additional level of security to protect one’s identity. It also prohibits Federal agencies from accepting driver licenses and ID cards from states that do not meet required minimum standards. Beginning May 7, 2025, everyone must have a REAL ID license or passport to enter certain Federal buildings, military bases and nuclear power plants or board commercial flights within the United States.
