Implementation of the required ten digit dialing in the area which was to have begun Wednesday, has been delayed until later this year.
The Tennessee Public Utility Commission is blaming Hurricane Helene, and the damage caused in this area, as the reason the required 4-2-3 and use of a new 729 area code for new lines will not begin until at least August.
Originally the plan was to implement the required 4-2-3 for all area calls on February 5 and the 729 in March.
