The Greeneville Big Lots appears to still be on track for the closing, perhaps as soon as next month.
Big Lots filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2024 and was acquired was acquired by Gordon Brothers. They announced plans to close over 300 locations nationwide, while allowing other locations to be leased out. Gordon Brothers has published a list of locations available for lease on their webpage. The Greeneville Store was not listed on either the Phase 1 or Phase 2 list. There are 25 stores in Tennessee on the list to remain open at this time. There are only three east of Knoxville – Bristol, Elizabethton, and Kingsport.
Employees at the Greeneville Big Lots store were notified in December that the store would be closing and an employee said Wednesday they expected to close sometime in February. The department store, which has been operating in Greeneville since March 1998, still displays a “Closing” banner and most of the shelves are now empty.
