Hurricane Helene recovery aid is one of the three things the Special Legislative Session is considering this week.
Governor Bill Lee has proposed that the state make $450 million more available to local governments. Part of that comes through the State of Tennessee covering more of the local cost-share burden for communities. The federal government is offering 75% of the cost of some repairs, with the State of Tennessee and local governments splitting the remainder, paying 12.5% each. Governor Lee has proposed that the State pay 20% instead, leaving a much more manageable amount for local governments to pay.
The Governor’s comments came in an interview that Radio Greeneville conducted with him last night, after the Special Session got underway. You can hear the entire interview following the 10AM news on 99.5 FM WGRV.
