This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for portions of southwest North
Carolina…east Tennessee and southwest Virginia.
.DAY ONE…Today and Tonight
A strong cold front moves through the area tonight. Temperatures should fall enough before daybreak Sunday to allow for at least a rain and snow mix over parts of the Cumberland Plateau and western areas of Lee and Wise counties in Virginia. Any snow accumulations through that time would be very light.
.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN…Sunday through Friday
Rain is expected to change over to snow Sunday morning behind a cold front. The middle to upper Tennessee valley and the upper plateau may see up to an inch or so. The mountains of southwest Virginia and eastern Tennessee will have significant snowfall accumulation. Please see the Winter Weather Advisory and Winter
Storm Watch for this information.
Then, dangerously cold air will arrive behind a cold front Sunday night and remain through the middle of next week. Many locations will likely see several days of sub-freezing temperatures. Near zero wind chills are also likely across much of the region with values near 15 below zero likely in the mountains Sunday night.
Snowfall may be possible later in the week, but this potential is still very limited.
.SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT…
Snowfall reports for Sunday through Monday are appreciated.
