The wrong way driver in a motor vehicle accident last night on I-81 in Greene County was injured, and does face charges according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
According to a preliminary report, the vehicle was traveling north in the southbound lanes around 7:50 pm. The report indicates moments before a THP unit could intercept the vehcile, it struck a southbound car.
The wrong way vehicle then flipped and trapped the driver inside for about 30 minutes.
He was flown from the scene by Highlands Air Rescue to an area hospital. The other driver did not require hospitalization.
Both southbound lanes near mile marker 32 were closed for nearly an hour during the accident cleanup and investigation.
