A Greene County employee was killed in a single-vehicle accident around 9:30 Monday morning.
A Greene County Solid Waste Department truck driven by Kenny F. Ricker was traveling west on East McKee Street near Laughlin Healthcare Center when the vehicle dropped off the edge of the roadway. The truck then came back onto the roadway, rolled onto the passenger side, and struck a tree with the cab area. The vehicle was hauling a convenience center container.
Ricker was extricated by the Greeneville Fire Department and the Greeneville Emergency & Rescue Squad. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was transported by EMS to the Quillen College of Medicine for an autopsy.
Jones Bridge Road closed to traffic for several hours as crews responded to the scene.
The Greeneville Police Department investigated the accident. The Greeneville Fire Department and Tennessee Highway Patrol were also on the scene.
