The mountainous areas of Greene County (especially above 2500 feet, will be under a Winter Storm Watch today from 1 pm until 1 pm on Saturday.
BOTTOM LINE UP FRONT
1. Snowfall accumulations of 3 to 5 inches in the higher elevations of northern Tennessee and southwest Virginia above 2500 feet. Isolated higher amounts highest elevations up to 7 inches.
2. Lighter snowfall amounts of 1 inch or less in the lower elevations outside the watch area.
3. Accumulations on roadways will be mainly in the higher elevations.
4. Temperatures will fall this afternoon into the lower 30s, except 20s higher terrain. Wind chills will drop into the teens in the higher elevations and 20s in the lower elevations with gusty northwest winds this afternoon and tonight.
5. Timing – Rain changes to snow across northern Tennessee, southwest Virginia and the far east Tennessee mountains early to mid afternoon today. Snow then continues tonight into Saturday morning.
