A long awaited paving project on a stretch of Church Street in Greeneville moved a step closer to reality Tuesday, although three years and nearly double the cost later of what was initially budgeted for the plan.
Town Recorder and Finance Director Lora Young explained the Grant Contract with TDOT has layed dormant for about eighteen months, but she told City Council members Tuesday, finally some progress has been made with the state.
Initially, the project in 2021 would have cost $1.34 million. The project price tag today is just over $2.2 million dollars.
TDOT Young says is prepared to put the project out for bids as soon as today, following City Council action Tuesday approving Greeneville’s funding portion of the project.
The project would run from the City Limits near Towering Oaks to Main Street.
Contingent on the outcome of the bid process, a start date for the road work is not yet scheduled.
