Reports of a strong odor in Midway led to an investigation Saturday night.
At around 10 p.m. the Midway Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a residence on a report of a strong chemical odor.
According to the complainant, residents in the area have reported feeling sick and having issues with the chemical odor. Firefighters on the scene confirmed a strong chorine-like smell.
Midway Volunteer Fire Department concluded the investigation at 11:15 P.M., determining the chemical smell to be related to everyday waste on Potter Town Road.
The report came less than a week after residents saw a large orange cloud in the atmosphere caused by two failed startups at the nitric acid plant.
Representatives of US Nitrogen reported all their operations were normal. No such odors were attributed to that facility.
