JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Nov. 16, 2024) The No. 21 ETSU football team out-gained Furman by over 100 yards (425-282) but fell to the Paladins by a score of 24-21 on Saturday afternoon from Bank of Tennessee Field at William B. Greene, Jr. Stadium. Saturday’s loss moves ETSU’s record to 6-5 overall and 4-3 in SoCon play.
ETSU had some standout performances statistically on Saturday. Devontae Houston notched his second 100-yard rushing game of the season finishing with 103 yards on 12 carries (8.6 avg.) and a touchdown. AJ Johnson surpassed the century mark in receiving as well finishing with 106 yards on six catches. It is the third time that Johnson has had 100 or more yards in a game. Furthermore, Johnson is up to 662 receiving yards this season, which is the second most by a Buccaneer receiver since the program returned in 2015 (Will Huzzie 798 in 2021).
Defensively, Ray Coney and William McRainey led the charge with 12 tackles each. Coney also had ETSU’s lone sack in the game, while Jaden Woods added six tackles, forced a fumble to go with an interception. It was his first career interception.
ETSU will close out the regular season next Saturday when it visits VMI. Kickoff between the Bucs and Keydets is set for Noon.
