Each Greeneville/Greene County EMS unit which responds to 9-1-1 calls will now be equipped with the Lund University Cardiopulmonary Assist System, or LUCAS.
EMS Director TJ Manis says a $142,000 grant allowed for purchase of the eight automated chest compression devices, which cost just under $18,000 each.
Manis and Advanced EMT Katie Payne demonstrated one of the units to the EMS Board during their Thursday afternoon meeting.
Lund University Cardiopulmonary Assist System (LUCAS) is a mechanical device providing automatic 5 cm deep chest compressions and active decompressions back to normal anatomical position with a frequency of 100 per minute. LUCAS is constructed to give chest compressions according to the latest international guidelines in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
