Greene County experienced its driest October in over 20 years, only one month after record flooding. Following the over 6 inches of rainfall from Hurricane Helene alone, October saw less than an inch of precipitation, making it the driest October since 2000.
On average, October usually sees almost 3″ of rainfall. This year, less than quarter of an inch was recorded. In 2016, when the region experienced devastating forest fires, the October rainfall was just over one-half inch.
November of 2016 recorded only one third of an inch prior to the outbreak of those fires. And just last week, the U.S. Drought Monitor classified Greene County as abnormally dry, with only one day of rainfall in this month so far. Sunday’s forecast could bring some relief, with a 70% chance of rain for Greene County and surrounding areas.
